Course Information

Objectives: The course aims to provide the student with essential knowledge in Electric Energy Conversion required for its steady state analysis, such as: the components and their steady state models, their functions, steady state and dynamic behavior, and Fundamentals of their design.

Context: An overview of fundamentals of modern electric energy conversion and rotating electric machines. Review of the basic concepts used in electric energy conversion: Electromagnetic fields and voltage induction, induction of forces and torques, phasors, complex power, three phase systems and per-unit methodology. Equivalent models of energy conversion system components including magnetic circuits, transformers, motors, generators (AC and DC). Steady-state behavior of energy conversion systems.

Relation to other courses:  The course is a fourth semester compulsory one, offered to all students following a BSc Program in Electrical Engineering at Sharif University of Technology. The course gives the foundations for study of Energy Conversion equipment performance, and design. It is the prerequisite of Electric Energy Conversion 2 that is elective for all Electrical Engineering students and compulsory for those who choose "Electrical Energy Systems" as their professional discipline.

Pre-requisites:  The pre-requisite for the course is EE25733, Electromagnetic.

Assumed knowledge:  It is further assumed that the students are familiar with MatLab, and have a good computer literacy.

Following courses: Some of the topics covered in this course are expanded in more details in course EE25348, Electric Energy Conversion 2. This is one of the specialization courses for students following the "Electrical Energy Systems" discipline.

Old courses:  The course replaces part of  previous course 25061 (Electrical Machines One) and another one, 25062 (Electric Machine Two).
